The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a central pillar of the regime, plays a leading role in exporting terror abroad. It has provided material support to extremist groups across the Middle East, including Hezbollah and Hamas, and has been implicated in plots to assassinate dissidents and critics on foreign soil, including in the United Kingdom.

The people of Iran have shown extraordinary bravery in the face of unimaginable risks. They are not asking for foreign intervention, but they do need moral and political support from democratic nations to help tip the weakened regime over. The UK government has a vital role to play.

Such actions would send a clear message that the UK stands firmly with those fighting for human rights and democracy, and will not tolerate the export of terrorism and oppression.
